9 Cacao + Journaling Prompts for no B.S self-exploration

We know many of you like to combine cacao drinking with journaling. And there’s actually a heap of science behind why cacao and any creative activity, like journaling, go hand in hand.

Cacao supports the production of dopamine in our body. The higher your dopamine levels, the higher your alertness, focus, creativity, long-term memory, and concentration will be. Dopamine helps move us from boredom and apathy to excitement and engagement.

Cacao also helps us produce serotonin, which is very much linked to creativity. Serotonin stabilises our mood and generates feelings of wellbeing and happiness.

Plus, regular consumption of cacao’s unique stimulant, theobromine, improves sleep and reduces stress, both of which impact serotonin and dopamine levels. (You can read more about the science on our website, complete with all the scientific references we use).

When we combine journaling and cacao, we like to make a simple ritual out of it - but no bells and whistles and woowoo required (unless that’s your jam) just setting the context for greater stillness, depth and authenticity.

Some recommendations:
📖 Choose a clean, peaceful space to journal where you won’t be interrupted.
📖 Light a candle or some incense if that’s supportive for you.
📖 Prepare your cacao drink with approx 30g of Soma cacao (which is cacao paste, not regular cacao powder - which simply doesn’t have the same effect).
📖 Take a few moments to sit and be still. Following your natural breathing for a few minutes can be an effective way to start to calm the mind and establish a deeper connection with yourself.
📖 Then allow yourself to write. Don’t filter. Don’t strategise. Don’t plan.
