Why it is essential to blend or froth your cacao

As many of you now know - we are no longer selling our cacao in large chunks, but rather, in fine shavings. Thank you all for your amazing feedback about this - we're so happy it is making your lives a little easier.

Despite the finer shavings, it is still 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆.

Our cacao does not dissolve easily in hot water or milk, unlike similar products like cacao powder or cocoa powder. In the same way that if you’re serious about coffee drinking you invest in various tools to prepare your morning cup, or pay a barista to do it for you - cacao drinking also requires investment in some simple equipment.

Below are our favourite tools that make our cacao preparation efforts a total breeze.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly discourage you from using an enclosed blender to prepare your cacao, unless you are preparing a cold summer drink. Because of the heat from the hot water, the risk of the cacao exploding all over you is very real. And yes, we are speaking from personal experience.

1. Our cacao scoops.

These measure 2 tablespoons of cacao - which is, in our opinion the perfect morning dose. We have these available in golden (stainless steel) or handcrafted Balinese wooden spoons.

2. A Milk Frother (aka TOTAL GAME-CHANGER).

We use a Sunbeam milk frother, which is currently onsale at Harvey Norman for $79 (and no, we’re not affiliated with them in any way, its just a great tool!). You can purchase one via this link. Cheaper ones are also available at Kmart and Target, or you can invest in some more fancy ones if you’re ready to go all in!

3. A stick blender or hand-held blender.

You might have one of these already, so this could be a good place to start if you're not quite ready to purchase a milk frother. We use this nowadays when preparing cacao in a saucepan for a group, but its also great for your solo morning cup. You can grab a cheap one are at Kmart, Target, and Woolworths.
